FiveM crashes when joining a server ("caused FiveM to stop working")
Fixable on your PCFiveM crashes while loading into a server or right after you spawn. Usually a bad cache, a graphics or script mod conflicting with the server, or an outdated driver. If it only happens on one server, the server's content is the likely trigger.
Why it happens
Joining a server loads its custom cars, maps, and scripts on top of GTA V. If your cached copy of that content is corrupted, a client mod (graphics packs, ReShade, script hooks) clashes with it, or your PC runs out of memory loading it, FiveM crashes. The crash window usually names the file or error at fault, which is the best clue.
How to fix it
- When the crash window appears, copy the error text (or click 'Save information' to keep the crash report). Paste it into the decoder on the home page. It may match a more specific fix.
- Clear the cache: close FiveM, then delete the 'cache', 'server-cache' and 'server-cache-priv' folders in %localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\data. Leave 'game-storage' alone. Rejoin; the first load will be slower.
- Test without client mods: move the 'mods' and 'plugins' folders out of %localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app to your desktop (this temporarily removes graphics packs and ReShade), then rejoin. If that fixes it, add them back one at a time.
- Remove single-player mods from your GTA V install folder (ScriptHookV, dinput8.dll, .asi files, trainers), then verify GTA V's files in your launcher.
- Update your graphics driver, and close background apps before joining. Servers with lots of custom content use a lot of RAM and VRAM.
- Try a different server. If only one server crashes you, send its staff the crash report and where you were when it happened.
Still broken?
If it crashes on every server with no mods installed and a clean cache, reinstall FiveM from fivem.net (your GTA V install isn't affected). Or book a session and we'll read the crash report together.

A script or content pack on the server didn't download or load correctly. Usually it's the server's problem, but a corrupted cache on your end can cause it too, so clear that first.
