GTA V crash: ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC "Out of game memory"

Fixable on your PC

ERR_MEM_EMBEDDEDALLOC_ALLOC

Despite the wording, this usually isn't your PC running out of RAM. It's mods pushing past the game's built-in memory limit, a broken graphics driver, or odd page file settings.

Why it happens

GTA V reserves a fixed-size chunk of memory (the 'heap') when it starts. Mods that add cars, maps, or scripts can fill that chunk and crash the game. On unmodded games, the usual culprits are a corrupted graphics driver or a custom page file size the game doesn't like.

How to fix it

  1. If you use mods: remove them all first (script files, .asi files, and the 'mods' folder in your game directory) and test the plain game. If it works, add mods back a few at a time.
  2. If you want to keep a heavy single-player mod setup, a heap limit adjuster mod raises the game's memory limit. Single-player only. Never take mods into GTA Online.
  3. Do a clean graphics driver install: run DDU in Safe Mode to remove the old driver, then install the latest from NVIDIA or AMD.
  4. Set Windows virtual memory back to default: search 'Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows' > Advanced > Virtual memory > Change, tick 'Automatically manage paging file size', then restart.
  5. On a laptop, make sure GTA V runs on the dedicated graphics card: Settings > System > Display > Graphics, pick GTA V, choose 'High performance'.
  6. Verify the game files in Steam, Epic, or the Rockstar Games Launcher.

Still broken?

Run 'sfc /scannow' in an admin Command Prompt to repair Windows system files. If you've never modded and it still happens, book a session and we'll dig into it together.
